With Juneteenth and Father's Day being so close this year, I have reflected on my capability to provide for my family, a human right that my ancestors were never allowed because of their physical bondage. Whether it is working with the bees, planting crops, playing soccer with the kids, or looking for insects on the farm my family and I have established a relationship to the land that our ancestors did not have here in America.

Introducing me to horses was not the only thing my dad did. I was able to observe him as an entrepreneur. When he had an idea, he acted on it. That is exactly how I am today. Being able to see ideas come to fruition shaped my belief that anything is possible. I was a kid with a dream of having all the horses and all the animals.

I have no children, but I am a mother. I have never conceived a child, yet still I am a mother. I hadn’t envisioned myself to be on the cusp of 33, single, and managing a farm with livestock and a business on my own. I’ve always wanted to have children of my own, but I now realize that being a mother isn’t limited to humans raising humans.
